Our countdown to Chamonix

February 5, 2014

Preparations are afoot for our trip out to the Alps at the beginning of March when we have a residency at La Terrasse in Chamonix, France for two weeks.

We last played in the Alps in January and February 2009. It was our second foreign trip as a band and, thanks to Dave Jordan of Gigz management who saw us play at The Ship in Kingsbridge (which is now a Costa Coffee!!), we played in La Tania, La Praz, Meribel and Val d’Isere on a weekly rotation. It was hard work, lugging the gig in and out of each gig in the snow (sometimes after the odd vin chaud), but it was also two of the best months of our lives which we will all remember forever.

I have been trying to get the band back out there for the last couple of years, but with the release of our album and an extremely busy gig schedule, it has been increasingly difficult for us to travel out for a month or two, as the venues and Dave would prefer. I did ask Dave to bare us in mind if he had a couple of weeks where he could fit us in, which he has and we absolutely jumped at the opportunity.

From the day we were offered the gig, it has given us all a huge lift and we have been frantically rehearsing and adding new songs to our sets. We are going to be playing in the same venue for two weeks this time, so none of the lugging in and out of the venue and tackling blizzards in the middle of the night driving back from somewhere across the valley. This is gonna be good!!

To top it off our respective better halves, Soraia, Kate, Tori and Carla are all coming out too as well as mine Mark’s parents, Ken and Di, and a variety of friends who we can’t wait to see on the slopes by day and on the dance floor by night.

We travel out on the night of Saturday 1st March so that we can arrive in Chamonix on the morning of Sunday 2nd March, ready for a day of skiing, bedding in and deciding which will be our brew of choice of the fortnight.

Our gig schedule starts on Monday 3rd March. You can find out more about it here: The Red Bullets to play La Terrasse in Chamonix, France

We have quite a busy time after the Alps too. We’re playing on HMS Illustrious on Thursday 20th March, just after we return and then at the beginning of April we have too exciting gigs back in our second homeland, Devon. I have just had the second of the two gigs confirmed this morning which will be at the Globe in Frogmore (where we love) on Saturday 5th April. The first will be on Friday 4th April at the Bay Horse in Ashburton.

We’re really looking forward to playing back in Ashburton again and thanks to the Bay Horse for inviting us. You can read more about that trip here: Devon Double Header – 4th & 5th April

That’s it from me for now. I’m going to try to put some video blogs together whilst we’re in Chamonix, so if you’re coming out, make sure you’re looking ‘fly’ (I think that may be a snowboarding term) because we’ll be getting some footage on the slopes!

See you soon
